In my previous post I went extensively on the many benefits of prekese, from how it helps mothers who have just given birth to those with diabetes. Prekese is also a great solution to those wanting to lose weight. In this post I want to share with you this simple yet effective way to make prekese tea. I have also filmed a video, which you can watch here or in the embedded video below.

What does Prekese Tea Taste Like?

Prekese tea tastes like diluted hot chocolate! This is no surprise because prekese looks very similar to carob which is often used as an alternative to chocolate.

Ingredients

Prekese

Now the main ingredient you will need for this prekese tea, is of course, prekese. I always use just one prekese pod as it really infuses with the water quite strongly. There are two soft edges out the four, so I cut that off and then break the remaining bark in half. Because of this I usually re-infuse the prekese 2-3 more times. But exactly how please see the recipe down below.

Lemon

Now this is totally optional, but if you want to maximise your absorption of non-heme (plant-based) iron then adding lemon will really do the job. Our bodies can readily absorb iron from heme foods such as meat, fish and eggs. Non-heme iron foods such as dark leafy greens, legumes, seeds and nuts are not easily absorbed by our bodies. So in order for you to get into your system as much of the iron, you can just sprinkle over some lemon juice! It actually makes the flavour more complex and interesting, think pad thai with lime (yum!).

Honey

Prekese tea tastes like diluted hot chocolate, so adding a sweetener like honey or maple syrup will really make this drink enjoyable. But if you are on a low-sugar diet then you can skip adding honey and still get a flavourful prekese tea.
